Why this role matters

  • The role holder will have to run a team to facilitate the solution delivery.

  • The role holder is responsible for taking a technical requirement and work with design, architect teams to find the solution fit for delivery from Engineering perspective.

  • The role holder should have experience in leading a team for Domain Activation & Configuration deliveries using but not limited to Open source tools such as ODL, GSON, Jackson & Oracle COTS tools such as ASAP, OSM and Objectel.

  • The role holder should be proficient in YANG/Netconf technologies to support delivery of New set of Activation engine. The role holder should know the Activation roadmap in SDN/NFV world.

  • To assist in setting standards and objectives for the team for developing north bound adapter to consume YANG based services & south bound adapters across various types of protocol including but not limited to NetConf, SSH, Webservices, RestConf.

  • The role holder should leverage the experience of the relevant BT wide professional communities to discharge these responsibilities, thus ensuring knowledge sharing extends beyond the functional boundary of the role.

  • Demonstrates the ability to produce or co-ordinate the production of designs/deliveries that are straightforward and adhere to design assurance requirements prior to delivery e.g. Design Patterns, solution designs, high & low level designs, test plans, cost models.

  • Engages with design assurance and supports own projects and operational areas as well as supporting projects in the wider Unit as a subject matter expert (SME). Demonstrates delivery of creative solutions to meet customer requirements, providing evidence of time and costs efficiencies.

  • Provides evidence and audit trail for ownership of specific project deliverables within their area of expertise. Champions reuse through design patterns, standardises bespoke solutions and contributes to product evolution, evidenced through specific examples of measureable value add to designs/solutions e.g. Time and Cost savings. Demonstrates leadership through delegation, coaching, direction setting and deliverable management .

  • Provides evidence of engagement with the wider team/stakeholders to ensure ‘buy-in’, robustness and consistency of approach. Provides evidence of ensuring a wider understanding and compliance with e.g. operating model, Canterbury, CDP.

  • Commits to and supports shared agendas across business boundaries to ensure the designs and components produced, are to the necessary quality gate level, aligned from requirement to transition into operational support. Demonstrating a commercial awareness in interactions e.g. based upon time, cost and business sensitivities.

  • Recognised lead in the field of expertise typically through externally recognised qualifications. Demonstrates ownership, resolution and reporting of major customer issues & risks. Demonstrates the ability to confidently deliver presentations both formally and ad-hoc as evidenced through audience feedback on both quality of content and presentation style.

  • Sets and achieves clear and stretching deliverables/objectives for self and others. Executes defined deliverables to meet success criteria within Work Packages. Demonstrates the ability to articulate clearly the requirements, solutions and timescales whilst managing expectations.

  • Provides evidence of leading knowledge calls, running/setting agendas for Focus Groups/Forums. Seeks sample feedback on quality of content and delivery. Pro-actively contributes to the strategy of the Professional Community working with the Community lead in the setting of future direction. E.g. SME within area of expertise.

  • Takes charge of own development and that of own / wider team to ensure skills meet current and emerging requirements whilst meeting project commitments. Acts as a role model for self-development evidenced through progress made on own PDP and participation on knowledge calls, forums and technology focus groups. Actively promotes the accredited learning paths, typically holding or working towards the relevant Silver pathway.

  • Demonstrates proactive completion of regular reporting to the agreed quality levels e.g. Weekly reports, project reports, CDPs, 1-2-1s, ePerformance (Self review, performance notes, Personal Objectives, PDP), Timesheets, T&S (Pre-approval & claims). Individuals also demonstrate a proactive approach to keeping ALL mandatory training items up to date.

  • Demonstrates a proactive and diligent approach to being fully utilised across projects and adhere to the cost recovery process. Provides timely activity updates (as agreed with their manager)

  • Demonstrates adherence to the Governance Model

  • Risks that impact the department e.g. SE being audited for IL2 are reported to Head of GS Complex Contracts Technical Systems Design.External risks are logged on the contract risk register and are the responsibility of the contract manager
