Why this role matters

The individual will be responsible for the delivery of turnkey projects involving multiple applications, with a budget of 1.5 million pounds and above, working in collaboration with CIO teams, Release Hub, PoDs and multiple development teams across various locations. The individual will be responsible for a team of 35 or more resources with at least 5 BT FTEs in his/her team. The individual will be completely owning multiple systems from conceptualization to taking it to live and then their maintenance on production systems. The individual will also be responsible for the cost and the quality of project he/she does and is expected to improve efficiency with each iteration.

What you'll be doing

  • Manage and successfully deliver multiple parallel projects.

  • Manage team of around 4-10 including their performance management.

  • Manage vendor teams of at least 20 or more resources.

  • Will be responsible for a total spend of 1 million pound or more.

  • Devise and own project plans, execute and monitor the same.

  • Drives BT’s efficiency targets both in cost and quality.

  • Analyse problems and review / propose solutions by presenting working PoCs (beta code).

  • To interface with both the vendors and internal organisation of Customer Experience teams, Users, Delivery managers, architects, designers, infrastructure teams, developers, etc.

  • Own the definition of the team processes and standards

  • To conduct regular project reviews and implement corrective actions.

  • Enhance efficiency of design, development, test, release and support processes by developing tools and frameworks as required.

  • Prioritising work within the team.

  • Problem solving for issues that are broader than the delivered software, e.g.Integration, interconnection and e2e issues in complex integrated stacks.

  • Resolving production issues to fix service P1-4 issues.

  • Problems relating to introducing new technology, and resolving major issues in the platform and/or service.

  • Strong Knowledge in Complex workstreams delivery of Openreach

  • Strong Knowledge in Moblity stack, Work Orchestration stack of TSO, EWMP

  • Knowledgeable in setting up governance model of medium to large projects.

  • Strong trait in problem solving

  • Improve resilience in our ability to send engineer to work. This is the most important service area for OR.

  • Rationalize and simplify the legacy stack by closing down legacy systems

  • Define and own implementation of the TSO2020 - IT simplification strategy. Target 50% reduction of the IT estate within 3 years.

  • Define and own implementation of BT’s strategy of cost-transformation at the unit level. Target: While the target is on an annual basis, the strategy to achieve efficiencies year-on-year span across 3-5 years. For example, insourcing, colocation, vendor strategy, systems strategy, etc

  • Develop Architecture and Engineering roadmap in conjunction with Architecture & Transformation

  • Own the security, compliance, upgrade, patching, provisioning & decommissioning of infrastructure estate as per published plans

  • Provide third line support for all components owned the unit.

  • Operational Risk identification & mitigation

  • Change Management

  • Own the resourcing and capacity plan for the assigned FSS area.

  • Deliver flexible resourcing plan ensuring right-sourcing of work, managing TLR

  • Ensure efficient and effective deliveries as part of MFU and delivery hub roadmap. Ensure timely release of high quality software through various stages of release and handover to production.

  • Provide technical professional contribution tobusiness strategy

  • Drive business benefit, value creation for BT by planned/proposed work

  • Improve Engineering capability in BT and subcon teams in line with BT Academy, profession standards, ALP’s and adopt and embed best practice for agile engineering, test automation, repeat releases.

  • Cost Transformation:

  • Set & manage short term and long term budget for complete FSS area.

  • Manage and improve the cost base, ensuring appropriate levels of controls in place to govern spend and manage TLC

Overall Skills and Experience

  • Well versed in multiple development methodologies, especially Agile

  • Exposure to open source projects/tools

  • Strong Technical expertise in Operating systems like Unix, OEL & as well as in Oracle Database.

  • Strong technical expertise in enterprise technologies like Java/J2ee

  • Adopts new and emerging working methods to provide innovative solutions to meet customer needs

  • Ability to technically initiate, lead, motivate and mentor the team continuously.

  • Very Good negotiation and conflict resolution skills

  • Strong decision making skills

Qualification:

  • Should be BE/Btech/Mtech/MCA(Regular)

  • 10-15 years of experience in the IT industry with at least 5 years as project manager
