Why this role matters

Accountable for the technical build and support of the TSDD Test Facility and working to ensure the timely availability of robust and proven test environments, building towards a defined standard and ensuring appropriate connectivity between systems both internally and externally, applying appropriate security.

What you'll be doing

Responsible for the completion of build, support or investigation of problems using department instructions, tools and process as a guide.

Maintaining SLA’s where practical and in the event that an SLA is not met, working to achieve the earliest resolution.

Is aware of our strategic direction and ensures all solution builds in the test environments meet those strategic guidelines..

Identify technical solutions which will avoid repeated raising of work packages for similar problems, plan their potential implementation assess their impact and make the agreed changes.

Develop technical expertise for a specific technology area, understand how it impacts on other areas within the Test Facility and ensure that the knowledge accrued is documented.

Carry out the proactive work required in order to maintain the test estate in order that it is usable by the wider integration, test and development communities driving improvements in the team’s working and technical methods.

Work using local processes as a guide and implement changes in order to improve the process. Represent the team as an owner of the process.

Responsible to abide by and maintain company Health and Safety policy.

Solid, basic level relevant knowledge of IP Transport.

Either have passed Cisco CCNA, Juniper JNCIA or have demonstrable equivalent knowledge and experience,

Proven ability to learn new technologies and use those that knowledge to improve the tech labs capability.

Energy passion and commitment.

Good breadth of knowledge of other technical areas of work; e.g. Core, RAN, IP or VASI, Network Support, Facility Services

Able to fully describe the key elements of a mobile network and understand how the components function and interact.

Understand the detail of how a call is made and received over the network and the systems it touches en route.

Good knowledge of the Testing and Project Life-cycles.

Significant experience of Operation & Maintenance.

An ability to understand and assimilate technical jargon.

Able to interpret and implement complex transport designs within test and proof of concept networks.

Technical experience implementing interior routing protocols such as Integrated IS-IS and OSPF.

Technical experience with internet routing and architecture (BGP4) and able to implement into a service provider network

Some experience with Quality of Service (DiffServ, HQoS, MPLS EXP) and basic understanding of QoS policies within a converged voice and data network.

Technical experience implementing MPLS layer 3 technologies, primarily within a Juniper MPLS network.

Technical experience implementing modern and legacy Data Centre and LAN switching technologies, primarily within a Cisco LAN switched environment (Cat6k, Nexus 7k).

Good knowledge is required in the operation of the Network infrastructure and an overall general knowledge of IT & Networks.

Ability to influence network designs.

Engineering, Science or IT based degree or equivalent experience.

Candidate would need either experience or an interest in IP Technologies

Ability/Interest to learn new technologies and use those that knowledge to improve the tech labs capability.

Interest in Automation/Coding/Programing

Firewall and General IP Experience
