Why this role matters

The Access Network Design Department, in RAN Development and Planning, in Network Services, is responsible for the design, technical strategy and performance of all aspects of EE’s Radio Access and In-building solution networks.

The department also provides a technical consultancy role for the business,

including future technology scenario modelling, Spectrum technical strategy

support and RAN Performance Optimisation

What you'll be doing

Technical authority accountable for Network Element Managers (NEMs), OSS, Interfaces and data from the RAN that is essential for EE developments for both commercial and emergency service network.

Represent Network Services as a technical lead for RAN Network Element Managers, ensuring that new capability and functionality, including process is maximised to drive the best network and enhance our customer’s digital lives.

As the subject matter expert for development activities coming into RAN that relate to Network Element Managers (for example Nokia NetAct, Huawei U2000) provide design contribution to projects to ensure that delivery is optimised across Network Services.

The role will have strong interaction with business partners, manage service providers and vendors for the Access Network and will also work closely with Operations teams offering a level of 3rd line support.

Technical lead and prioritise the design and delivery of practical solutions & configurations for network deployment and ongoing network rollout activities.

Definition and implementation of RAN OSS high and low level design based on RAN Supplier’s hardware and software release information current and future technologies (4G/3G/2G/OSS) to support the delivery of strategic network evolution.

To communicate specific business requirements for individual projects into the RAN Integration programme to ensure that functionality optimises the customer experience and business performance.

Through analysis inform technical projects whether planned deliveries are achievable and that they call on the most appropriate technical options available.

To liaise with Design and Delivery teams within Technology to ensure that capability and functionality improvements are made in a coherent and consistent manner to support Network Services priorities (including IT OSS (IBM), MBNL, Managed Service Providers).

To review and work with Senior and Principal Designers in RAN Deployment and Planning to ensure end user requirements are fulfilled in line with project deliverables.

Representing EE RAN Access Design across the business, its partner organisations and 3rd parties (Suppliers, Managed Service Providers).

In depth, technical expertise in mobile/fixed telecommunications industry in both architecture and operability with RAN OSS.

Knowledge of specific vendor’s solutions Nokia Net Act and Huawei U2000 including North Bound Interfaces, LDAP user management and Disaster Recovery Systems. (to include Red hat Linux – Oracle databases, Virtualisation)

Very good understanding of current and future technologies.

Excellent communication skills with internal and external teams/customers, including the ability to articulate ideas.

Proficient in SQL composition for data analysis.

Ability to understand technical requirements and produce functional specifications for system changes.

Good level of understanding IT environments and specifically Unix/Linux based systems.

Excellent Unix/Linux scripting (including BASH, PERL and PYTHON).
