Why this job matters

  • Supports in the design and orchestration of deal strategies for GS’ major, complex and strategic deals, with contract values of £10m plus

  • Works on deals that are business case driven and require innovative deal strategies, are highly technically and commercially advanced and not part of GS’ standard or repeatable portfolio offerings

What I’ll be doing – your accountabilities

  • Provide input to highly complex and strategic deal negotiations in support of the wider team with a view to managing deals in own right

  • Drafting contractual documents; negotiating terms and executing deals

  • Support the orchestration of the customer and internal engagement

  • Contribute to the risk management of the deal

  • Applying comprehensive knowledge of the customer landscape, GS’ portfolio of solutions and the wider market

  • to inform the approach and to assist in driving deals to closure

  • Provide insight on where improvements or adjustments can be made to further optimise the deal, such as in processes and plans

  • Work with subcontractors to document and agree flowdown of customer requirements

  • Support additional discrete projects including market trend analysis and precedents

Skills required for the job

  • Stakeholder engagement, key stakeholders: Account Management, Global Deal Architecture team; Global Bid Management and Commercial Finance teams; DDSO teams; Digital Solutions; Commercial teams; Third party suppliers including key strategic relationships with vendors e.g. Cisco

  • Deals worked on are highly complex and high value. They typically require MD approval, and in some cases GS CEO or OpCo approval

  • Strong problem solving skills and commercial and business acumen. Advanced contractual acumen (legal experience is a plus but not a pre-requisite). Strong customer intimacy and customer experience focus

  • Strong communication skills; ability to document and negotiate commercial, service and technical contract terms

  • Willingness to learn

  • Legal, contractual, contract management or bid management experience

The Strategic Deals Manager manages strategic, commercial opportunities for the BT group, executing complex deal engagements that establish the BT group as the customer's premier solutions provider and help customers drive desired business outcomes.

What you’ll be doing

  1. Executes upon the functional deals strategy to win global deals through a robust understanding of customer needs, BT capabilities and solutions.

  2. Delivers bids and propositions that are innovative, competitive and affordable whilst maximising value to BT.

  3. Ensures the communication of market opportunities, needs and feedback to a cross-functional team to inform the commercial strategy and prioritisation.

  4. Drives engagement with senior leadership executives and various lines of business to help customers innovate and meet business outcomes.

  5. Executes opportunity creation working backwards with customers to create strategic relationships with the BT group enhanced by a data-driven approach.

  6. Monitors and reports on deal structure, profitability and risks to key internal and external stakeholders and obtains required approvals to proceed.

  7. Manages all phases of the deal cycle (i.e., strategy, negotiations, closure), raising issues of concern to internal stakeholders.

  8. Implements ways to improve working processes within the deals team.
