To set the technical direction of the engineering teams developing and maintaining the Phone Book systems.
To innovate and challenge across the teams ensuring we continue to develop our technical skills as well as maximising efficient developments in the use of tools, infrastructure upgrades and opportunities across other areas of BT.
To lead on the regular reviews of the Phone Book systems and infrastructure ensuring we are compliant to security and working processes.
To ensure modern, quality coding practises are followed and proactive and positive behaviours displayed across the engineering teams.
To lead and provide coaching and guidance on the more complex coding projects.
To assist the business product and operational stakeholders in delivering efficient income and growth.
To manage the wellbeing and support the individuals and teams, in developing their skills and knowledge, whilst maintaining a healthy work life balance.
To continue to review and enhance our processes, continuously learning as an individual and as a team.
What you'll be doing
Write a 3-5 accountabilities of the job.
I input into design, ROM’s and project discussions impacting the PhoneBook Print and Online systems.
I will work closely with the CIO, Business and Product stakeholders and other BT teams. Building relationships and seeking to continuously improve the performance of the systems and team.
I will work closely with the PBOL ‘agile’ engineering team in continuing the improvements of our processes and skills as we implement a full ‘agile’ engineering lifecycle.
I lead the software engineering team in providing benefit to the Phone Book business.
I provide encouragement and support in increasing existing technical skills and developing new ones, allowing individuals to reach their potential.

Technical knowledge and experience of software design, development, testing and project management.
Detailed knowledge of the printed PhoneBook and PhoneBook Online systems and architecture.
Ability to see ‘the bigger picture’.
Proactive ‘can do’ attitude.
Ability to deal with ‘change’ in a positive and logical way.
Describe the experience that an individual in this role is likely to have
Proven background in all aspects of the software development lifecycle.
Understanding of both traditional and ‘lean’ software development lifecycles.
Experience in working with remote team members.
Experience in working with 3rd party suppliers for both software and resourcing.
Detailed knowledge and experience in C#, .Net and the MS software engineering stack,
Experience in managing technical direction of teams delivering to challenging deadlines
Experience in developing software using TDD techniques and agile methodologies
Willingness to improve own technical skills and drive to share knowledge so the team are continually learning and improving.
Communication skills and problem solving – ability to communicate solutions to people of varying technical skill and key stakeholders, and work as a part of broader project teams.
Positive ‘can do’ attitude with ability to learn quickly and progress rapidly from theoretical exercises to real world delivery and mentoring tasks
