Why this role matters

In BT TV and Broadband Software Systems, we are transforming the way we work to adopt an agile squad-based way of working using scrum. This is a step change to how we undertake work and deliver software, aiming to become faster, more flexible, more customer focused and with a best-in-class approach.

This has led to the creation of a new role for a Principal Scrum Master/Coach to guide the wider organisation in following Scrum practices, removing internal impediments to full adoption of multi-disciplined squads delivering software independently.

What you'll be doing

As a Principal Scrum Master, I will:

  • Lead on adoption of Scrum/Agile methodologies across BT TV & Broadband Software Systems

  • Coach the squads and organisation to follow Agile/Scrum practices

  • Remove barriers within to success in transforming to an Agile/Scrum based team

  • Role model the role, Coach and mentor other scrum masters in our teams.

  • Ensure that our ways of working are consistent across the teams.

  • Actively contribute to the company’s Agile and Lean Community. Keep the rest of the company network aware of our activities.

  • Lead the team of scrum masters to:

  • Guide squads towards improving the way they work

  • Remove barriers faced by a squad to enable them to achieve their maximum potential

  • Improve transparency within the team

  • Build a safe and trusting environment where conflicts are managed in a healthy way

  • Support and coach Product Owners and Team Members on Agile/Scrum practices

  • Facilitate sprint planning, retrospective and sprint demos

  • Maintain relevant metrics that help the team see how they are doing

  • Empower the squad to be self-organising

Communicate clearly and effectively both within and outside the squad.

We'll also need to see these on your CV


  • Significant experience as a Scrum Master and Coach for a software development team

  • Advanced Certified Scrum Master (A-CSM) or equivalent

  • Expert user of Jira and Kanban

  • Experienced in the use of Agile enablers, including User Stories, Automated Testing, TDD, CI/CD

  • Knowledge of the software development lifecycle

  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral

  • Self-starter, inquisitive and a great communicator

  • Experience of delivering agile change in a medium/large organisation


  • Certified Scrum Professional – Scrum Master (CSP-SM) or equivalent

  • 5 or more years’ experience in Scrum/Agile methodologies

  • TV & Broadband, telecom experience
