By working together across BT and fully utilising our diverse skills, we transform good technical ideas into fully formed and clearly articulated business cases.
We leverage partnerships with universities and other companies to conduct unique research in video networking and multimedia technologies which can be used by the rest of BT to provide solutions for our customers. Through technology consultancy we provide strategic direction on key topics to help BT make the right investment decisions and propose options for the future.
What you'll be doing
The role holders will:
Carry out novel research work into the delivery of TV and multimedia applications over converged fixed & mobile networks, making clear technical recommendations which lead to new solutions to business challenges and identifying new opportunities supporting BT’s strategic priorities for BT TV and BT Sport, or new fields with potential impact for BT’s future business.
Influence the strategic direction of relevant technical projects within BT in order to intercept the most appropriate market opportunity with best effect. They will report and present on deliverables, output and progress to cross business stakeholders.
Contribute to the creation of intellectual property, such as patents and trade secrets, which will enhance BT’s competitive position
Maintain awareness of advances in video & multimedia networking and the activities of other researchers or organisations.
Work closely with colleagues in the wider BT Research community, and stakeholders across the BT group
Prepare reports and presentations to customers and collaborative partners
Contribute to journal publications, popular science articles etc. which contribute to BT’s world-class standing in telecommunications and ICT research.
We'll also need to see these on your CV
Educated to degree level in relevant subject such as Computer Science, Physics, Engineering, or Maths
Relevant post-graduate qualifications would be an advantage.
Knowledge of Internet protocols and IP architectures, ideally both fixed and mobile networks.
Experience of working in an industrial or academic research organisation.
Excellent communication and presentation skills and with ability to persuade and influence internal and external customers.
