Why this role matters
As the Talent expert for Consumer, this role is responsible for owning and delivering the pan Consumer Talent Plan and Consumer Talent pool. The role holder will build a pipeline of internal and external talent to meet current and future demand in Consumer, increasing overall capability of the team and key/future skills and ownership of the Consumer succession plan.
What you'll be doing
Understanding the long term critical skill requirements linked to 3yrs business strategy.
Shape our talent strategy and plans to ensure we are building a pipeline of talent with these skills
Build pipeline of talent to meet the future demand and capability/skills needs of the Consumer business.
Set succession planning strategy.
Setting succession planning methodology, aligned to Group best practice.
Work with Personal Directors to complete succession planning across Consumer.
Agree actions and facilitate development, development moves, secondments etc
Annual identification of internal talent across Consumer. Identification of talent for
Group led programmes as well as local Consumer programmes.
Providing talent data and submissions as required to Group team.
Understand our future skills needs eg Digital, Transformation and medium to long term operating model to enable effective and robust succession planning.
Identify key gaps in succession plans and creation and delivery of action plans to address gaps.
Development our Internal talent through talent programmes / interventions.
Accountable for the talent programme strategy across Consumer, design and delivery of interventions / talent programmes for our corporate talent population (c150-200).
Design and delivery in conjunction with Learning and Leadership Managers.
Engage with, develop and agree a plan of activity with the recruitment team to bridge talent gaps. Including, mapping of external talent, developing bench strength.
Hold 1-2-1 meetings with key talent to build development plans, provide coaching as required
Establishing and maintaining effective and collaborative relationships with all key, HR and operational stakeholders, to understand business priorities and how talent activity can support their plans.
Maintaining effective collaborative relationships with the Centre of Excellence Talent team.
Attend pan BT meetings and workshops, representing and influencing on Consumer priorities in relation to policy and initiatives.
Commission the Centre of Excellence and monitor progress as required.
Building and maintaining effective relationships with the wider Leadership, Learning & Talent team working collaboratively to deliver a seamless, consistent and completely ‘joined-up’ service across Consumer
Translating thoughts/ideas into tangible actions, effectively managing all aspects of project scoping, planning, design, delivery and evaluation, working collaboratively with all relevant key stakeholders
Establishing and maintaining an effective relationship with the communications team across consumer to create a communication plan which supports our talent calendar and talent initiatives
To effectively monitor and manage expenditure on talent initiatives, within areas of responsibility within budget
To identify and implement best practice evaluation methodology for our talent activities, proactively identifying critical success factors & measuring ROI
Continuously research and evaluate innovative best practice to continually enhance our talent practice
Identifying and implementing opportunities to share learning, outcomes and best practice with colleagues within the learning, leadership and talent team, and more widely with colleagues across BT
Line Management of Talent Specialist.
Accountable for stewarding, leading and partnering with the business, ensuring all business activities are carried out in accordance with local legislative requirements, which enhance and protect BT for now and the future

Substantial knowledge and broad experience in Talent management, including the E2E construction of talent programmes.
Effectively communicating with and influencing key stakeholders to gain engagement, ownership and buy-in for talent activities
Proven ability to influence and coach at (Director) level and below and to build key relationships with the LLT CoE.
Ability to quickly establish credibility and respect and build strong working relationships pan Consumer and Group LLT.
Demonstrable professionalism with a proven ability to operate in a complex, fast paced matrixed business environment.
Bias towards bold and confident thinking, challenging the status quo where appropriate
Proven ability in making things happen –creation and delivery of practical and workable Talent and succession plans.
Able to deal with ambiguity, identify resources to implement and determine pragmatic solutions
Proven coaching and line management experience with the ability to lead and motivate team members.
